FAQ
-
Are you available for my due date?
We would love to hear from you and see if we have space around your due date. We keep our practice small so we can give our clients and our own families lots of attention. Just head over to the Contact Page and send us a quick message or give us a call.

Is homebirth right for me?
Homebirth can be a beautiful and empowering experience and works best when clients are willing to be in charge of their health, not defer decisions to your midwives. We provide you with resources and guidance for shared decision making throughout the process. Homebirth is also safest for clients who are low risk. We’re here to listen and help you figure out what is best for you and your family. We can talk through your health, your hopes for the birth, and figure out if homebirth is right for you.

What are your fees, and do you accept insurance?
We acknowledge that the Bay Area is an expensive place to live and we believe in making midwifery care as accessible as possible. While we do not contract with insurance companies, we do work with a biller who will be able to help clients with PPO insurance plans receive some reimbursement for midwifery fees, depending on the specifics of your plan. Clients with HMO plans, including Kaiser, and Medi-Cal, may need to access our sliding scale option if you cannot pay the full fee. Please contact us so we can discuss the details of our fee.
-
How do you handle emergencies?
Safety is always the top priority. We are trained to recognize early signs of complications and will give you our recommendations so we can make the best decisions about where the safest place to give birth is. If a transfer to a hospital becomes necessary, we’ll stay by your side to advocate and provide physical and emotional support, as well as update hospital staff on your care. We collaborate with local providers and have clear protocols in place to make sure you and your baby receive the care you need.
-
What postpartum care do you offer?
Postpartum is a tender and sacred time. We offer regular in-home visits to check on both you and your baby. There are six visits over six weeks with more in the beginning when clients have more questions and go through big transitions. These visits cover newborn care, breastfeeding support, emotional well-being, and more! We stay available by phone and email for any questions or concerns that come up as you settle into life with your little one.

What areas do you serve?
We primarily serve families in Alameda and the surrounding East Bay Area. If you’re outside that range, reach out! Sometimes we can make exceptions, or recommend another midwife who may be a good fit.
